With cooler weather on the horizon, we wanted someone with natural warmth and a sunny style for our Pinup of the Month for November — the radiant Brittany Schmeltzer was a natural choice.
A 26-year old vintage enthusiast from sun-drenched Florida, Brittany is sure to be found crafting, hunting down that perfect timeless piece or enjoying time spent with her Fiancé and dearest friends.
“I am constantly creating and celebrating this wonderful thing called life,” she says. “I have been dressing in vintage for nearly eight years, and I find it truly liberating. I wish everyone the chance to express themselves in their most authentic fashion.”
An avowed fan of anything vintage, Brittany admits she does have a personal preference. “My favorite decade for fashion, music and movies would have to be the 1930s,” she confides. “But, I love experimenting with all eras!”
“I believe wearing and doing what you love is so important,” she adds. “Life is the occasion, darling. . . why not dress for it?”

Don’t let the platinum blonde updo fool you. Our Pinup of the Month for September — the incandescent Miss Ria Von Strudel — is all smarts when it comes to vintage style. “My love of vintage really stems from my love of history,” she says.
Growing up in a beautiful, mid-century modern ranch house in upstate New York, Ria views every visit back home to be a lesson in the way things once were. “It’s all just very nostalgic and filled with history,” she notes. “Even something as simply timeless as my grandparents’ wedding photos from the 1940s.”
For her signature style, Ria likes to mix decades (although the 1940s to 1960s are her faves) and throw in an unexpected twist. “A great personal style can bring so many smiles to people’s faces. . . it starts the conversation.”

The end of August means back to school for students of all ages, including Sophie Berner, our Pinup of the Month for September. For many of you who have browsed our shop in Orlando’s blooming Audubon Park Garden District this Summer, Sophie may be a familiar face behind the counter. Now that Fall has arrived, she is returning to her college studies at Savannah’s renowned SCAD. This semester, all of us at Vince Taj will miss her — and her amazing love for vintage style.
“Since high school, I’ve had a love of vintage fashion,” she says. “Every day it’s a chance to learn something new and an opportunity to express myself through clothing.”
It’s this love that led to her current studies. “Being around fashion has encouraged me to follow my dreams and major in fashion marketing. It’s a way to make my passion for style a permanent part of my life. I’ve had fun playing dress up since I was a kid, and there’s no doubt that I’ll continue until I’m 60 or 70 or older.”

A long-time Vince Taj client who frequents our corner at The Lovely, Larissa Morales was a natural choice to be August’s Pinup of the Month. Her warm smile, outgoing nature and love of vintage fashion add a little extra sunshine to the summer month.
“Basics aren’t really in my vocabulary,” she notes. “I find them more boring than classic. Why not dive into vintage vaults and mix the old with the modern to create something unique — something more me?”
After a second though, she took her idea a step further. “Wouldn’t it be great if everyone just naturally dressed in whatever decade they liked? How great would it be to be able to stroll out in a Victorian, Tudor, 50s or even Elizabethan outfit without anyone really batting an eye?”
While Larissa is absolutely obsessed with vintage, her other passions include video games, comics, anime and art.

For many of the pin up girls we dress, vintage is more than just a style — it can also be a part of one’s personal heritage. Our July Pinup of the Month, Orlando-based Donna Lolis, notes that vintage is both a passion and a part of her culture’s past.
“Although I love wearing clothing from so many different eras,” she says, “I am always drawn to the bright colors and beautiful silhouettes found in my traditional Latino heritage.”
In fact, this love for bold hues and tropical prints is one more interest she may share with other pin ups. “In addition to the story telling and historical traditions that come with vintage clothing, pin up fashion is a way to showcase my love for the past while meeting others who may share this common bond,” she says.
“Best of all, we may all share a love for similar styles, but we each interpret that love in a unique way!”

Our Pinup of the Month for June, the undeniably singular Joanna Brown has a personal philosophy that has recently come into focus.
“Turning 30 last November, I feel I have officially come into my own and feel the most comfortable in my skin I ever have,” she says. “The beauty of clothing and dress give me the chance to empower other women as well. Any time I see a woman who is clearly expressing her individual style, I take the time to compliment her. The only way for women in our modern world to build strength and strive for gender equality is to come together and encourage each other in the face of insecurity.”
Although her point of view continues to evolve, Joanna’s love of vintage fashion is life-long. “When I was a teen, I loved to pour over Vogue magazines, staring at the clothing of the runways around the world,” Joanna says.
“I truly believe I have an old soul , and it shows in my love for clothing from the 1940s , 50s, 60s and into the 70s. One of the things that I really appreciate about vintage clothing is detail that went into making clothing then is something that is hard to find in modern clothing. Everything from the buttons to zippers and fabric patterns.”
So what makes for the perfect vintage look? “It’s easy,” she says. “Regardless of what others may think, I wear what makes me feel good! I take pride in my personal vintage clothing collection. So, I love to dress in what makes me feel comfortable, strong, confident and beautiful.”
